What I Wore: Mirror Print Sheath

Ruby Slipper Diaries is under construction and redesign by the lovely Victoria from 329 Designs. My prior posts from August haven’t carried over, bear with us while the conversion is going on 😉

I am very excited to share with you one of my Project Fab purchases from Marshalls. I had fall trends in mind when I made my purchases, I fell in love with the color and fit of this dress it couldn’t be more perfect for the transition from warm to cold weather.

I also found these gorgeous suede and patent eggplant pumps. Surprisingly, they are super comfortable for an 8 hour work day. I’m a fashion over function gal, if it looks good I’ll make it work and worry about the pain later.

Ever see the Friends episode when Monica buys the expensive boots? That episode could have been written about me. The things we do for the love of fashion!

Dress- Donna Morgan c/o Marshalls ($49.99)
Pumps- Lauren by Ralph Lauren c/o Marshalls ($39.99)
Jacket- Forever 21
Clutch- Target
Sunnies- Guess via TJ Maxx

I paired the dress with a cropped black jacket I already owned, the neck line isn’t exactly appropriate for the office, but I couldn’t contain my excitement I had to show it off ASAP! Problem solved- Jacket, blazer or Cardigan.

I envision wearing this with black tights, ankle boots and a fitted blazer later in the season.

Hope you’re having a great week!

~Jamie

What I Wore: Red and Black

Hope everyone had an amazing weekend! My Saturday was spent shopping which ALWAYS makes me happy, I am on a credit card freeze for the month- but I am participating in a contest for Marshalls called Project Fab. I am a semi-finalist who was sent a gift card and asked to find some fabulous deals. Well, let me tell you I found some fabulous deals!

If you follow Ruby Slipper Diaries on Facebook and Instagram I shared a few photos during my shopping adventure… Check it out if you haven’t already.

Over the next week I’ll be sharing my purchases, but today is an Oldie but Goodie I bought at Marshalls a few years ago:

If you saw the first of my Fall Trends post here red and black plaid is a trend to try next season, but honestly black and red is a classic color scheme that will never go out of style. So if plaid has you left feeling too lumber jack or school girl you can still stay trendy by pairing these colors together!

Happy Monday!

Fall Trends Vol. 1: Tough Girl Tartan

Fall is coming whether I like it or not, so I’ll bite the bullet and start sharing what fall has in store for us.

Today’s post is the first edition of the seasons upcoming trends- First up: Black and Red Plaid. Fear not my fellow Private School alums the look is classy chic not school girl.

To offset the uniform feel incorporate the trend in small doses:

Take a plaid midi skirt and accent in all Black. The black open toe ankle boots are an unexpected touch of bad girl, but the structured handbag and mixed metal pearl necklace keeps you office appropriate and oh so Lady like.

Add a plaid pump to boyfriend jeans, white T and a structured blazer. A hint of gold and a red patent clutch makes an otherwise casual outfit a little luxe and fun!

For those days when you want something comfortable but trendy, wear your plaid oversized with leggings, ankle boots and a cross body bag.

I Am Blue, So Very Blue

While attempting to be proactive and complete my Philosophy homework early this week, I found myself falling into the pit of procrastination. I have ADD when it comes to doing school work, bright shiny objects aka- My Glamour Magazine that sat on my end table with the promise of showing me 957 Fall Outfits!!

Truth be told, I don’t want to talk about fall just yet. It’s only the beginning of August folks, lets not rush it! For two weeks I put off scouring the pages to see what “Fall” will have in store for me. Well I had to make a decision, read “The Letter from Birmingham Jail” or come face to face with the reality that cooler weather is in my future and I need to know how to dress for it. Priorities, my friends, Priorities! Don’t judge me.

I am pleased to find that summer trends will carry over into next season. Florals, for example, can still be a wardrobe staple when paired with darker back drops and accessories. Yay!

I was over the moon when I turned the page and saw head to toe Cobalt Blue! I just wore that on Monday! Boo yah- who is ready for Fall? This girl!

What do you think about the monochromatic trend? Trend worth trying?

Hope you’re having a great week!

PS- I did read “The Letter from Birmingham Jail” it was rather captivating actually. Martin Luther Kung Jr. was an amazing writer and passionate advocate.

See- I do have my priorities straight, just not always in the proper order 😉

What I Wore: Peplum and Pink

Weekends come and go so quickly. Just another Manic Monday (I’ll have that song stuck in my head the rest of the day.)

I’m starting to get a little depressed with all the “summer is almost over” discussion. The magazines are talking about the fall trends, I’m just not ready for all that yet. Feeling the pressure of having to wear all my summer clothes Right Now, before it’s too late!!

I’m being a bit dramatic this morning, but seriously I don’t want summer to end- (Insert Temper Tantrum)

I love the black and white pattern of the top against the bright pop of pink, and I’m a huge fan of the bow buckle detail on the belt. Obsession of the moment: Bows!
